Dominican Republic Discovery Mission Trip I am excited to be a part of this trip. Seven people, from five different congregations, in the Diocese of Georgia will be participating in a discover trip to the Dominican Republic February 22-27. The purpose of the trip is to look at existing missions sites and to identify potential mission sites for parishes who are interested in partnering in mission work in the Dominican Republic. We believe that one of the most efficient ways to help with the crisis in Haiti is to strengthen the ability of the Dominican Church to provide relief through their existing missions. A second discovery trip is being formed for the near future. Thank you for your continued prayers as we travel and explore new possibilities of outreach for our diocese. Episcopal Relief and development (ERD) was established by the Episcopal Church USA in 1940 as the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief. The original mission was to assist refugees from Europe fleesing in advance of World War II. The agency went on to assist Palestinian refugees, children in Estonia, and diplaced persons in Germany and Hungary before the ECUSA went on the establish Episcopal Migration Ministries in 1988 to manage refugee settlement. In the meantime, the agency responded to disasters in the US and overseas. In 2000, the name changed to Episcopal Relief and Development to reflect the focus on disaster relief work and programs for integrated community development. In 2002, the organization incorporated as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. To assist in relief efforts you may make a financial contribution to ERD in several ways. Make a check payable to the St. Michael's annotated for Haiti Relief You may also donate online at www.er-d.org, call 1-800-334-7626 est. 5129, or mail a check to Episcopal Relief and Development, PO Box 7058, Merrifield, VA 22116-7058. |

The Rt. Rev'd Scott A Benhase 10th Bishop of Georgia If you weren't able to attend the consecration of our new Bishop, you missed a very moving event. We were so proud to be a part of such a wonderful celebration. I was exciting having St. Michael's banner carried in the procession. Thanks to Rev. kit for having the new banner pole made to make our participation in the procession possible. (website slideshow available on www.georiga.anglican.org) Jim and Montine Mize |
