The Dominican Republic Mission Discovery Trip The week in the Dominican Republic offered such a varied experience for us. There is so much need, it is difficult to determine where we should focus the diocese’s energy and money. I was touched by two very doable areas of need. One, being health care for women seen in the church sponsored clinics. For only $8.00, a woman can have a pap smear that could and would prevent health problems. I believe each parish ECW or individual women can provide some financial support for these needs. A second area, of need a large number of students in the Episcopal Church sponsored schools attend school on scholarships. They believe the way to stop the cycle of poverty is through education. A scholarship for one student for one year is $300. Your donation is tax-deductible if you send your check to the Dominican Development Group, a non-profit organization in the United States. Indicate on the check “Scholarship Program” and mail it to the “Dominican Development Group, c/o Day Spring, P.O.Box 661, Ellenton, FL 34222.” The DDG will forward the contribution to the Diocese of the Dominican Republic. Information can be found on the website - http://episcopaldominican.org/Scholarships%20Program/scholarship-program.html The Rev. Frank Logue has done a fantastic video on the Scholarship Program, available at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFn2lAGuL9E and at http://georgia.anglican.org/
